OM5 fiber optic patch cable is a wideband multimode fiber optic patch cable designed based on VCSEL laser light source, known as Wideband Multimode Fiber Patchcord (WBMMF). It is a fiber optic patch cord standard defined by TIA and IFC and is a laser-optimized multimode fiber (MMF) with high bandwidth in the 850nm- 950nm wavelength range.
The advantages of OM5 fiber optic patch cords are as follows:
Enhanced Scalability: OM5 Fiber Patchcord can combine Short Wave Wavelength Division Multiplexing (SWDM) and Parallel Transmission technologies and can support 200/400G Ethernet applications with only 8 cores of Wideband Multimode Fiber (WBMMF).
Reduced Costs: OM5 fiber optic patch cords draw on the wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) technology of single-mode fibers to extend the wavelength range available for network transmission, and are able to support 4 wavelengths on 1 core of multimode fiber, reducing the number of fiber cores needed to 1/4 the previous number, which greatly reduces network cabling costs.
Compatible and flexible application: OM5 fiber optic patch cords are suitable for different equipment from different manufacturers and have good adaptability to future technology upgrades.
Loss reduction: OM5 fiber optic patch cord reduces fiber optic loss and increases bandwidth requirements at 953nm.
In conclusion, OM5 fiber optic patch cable is a high-performance, low-cost, flexible and scalable fiber optic patch cable, suitable for a variety of network application scenarios.
