I. What is 1.25G optical module


1.25G optical module is SFP optical module, which can be simply understood as the upgraded version of GBIC, and its volume is only 1/2 of GBIC module. this design greatly increases the port density of network equipment. Common types of SFP optical modules are 1.25G SFP dual-fiber, 1.25G SFP single-fiber, 1.25G SFP CWDM, 1.25G SFP DWDM optical modules and so on.


1.25G optical modules are compatible with fiber optic switches, routers, servers and other fiber optic devices for establishing high-speed and stable fiber optic connections. They provide reliable data transmission and network connectivity and play an important role in various applications.


Second, what is 10G optical module


10G optical module, also known as 10Gbps optical module, is the transmission rate of 10Gbps optical module. 10G optical modules offer higher transmission rates and bandwidths than 1.25G optical modules and are widely used in a variety of network environments, including local area networks (LANs), wide area networks (WANs), data centers, and telecom carrier networks. They can be used to support faster data transmission and higher network performance. They play an important role in high-bandwidth applications such as data centers, enterprise networks and telecommunication areas, and support high-capacity data transmission and high-performance network requirements.


Third, 1.25G optical module and 10G optical module whether common


1.25G optical module and 10G optical module in the fiber optic transmission rate differences, so they are usually not directly common.


1.25G optical modules are used for fiber optic networks with a transmission rate of 1.25Gbps. 10G optical modules, on the other hand, are used in fiber optic networks with a transmission rate of 10Gbps.


While in some cases a 1.25G optical module can be used on a 10G port, in that case the 1.25G optical module will be limited to the maximum transmission rate it was designed for, 1.25Gbps, and will not be able to achieve a 10Gbps transmission rate. This is due to a rate mismatch between the 1.25G optical module and the 10G optical module.

Therefore, for optimal performance and compatibility, it is recommended that optical modules matched to the transmission rate be used in fiber optic networks.
