What does 10G SFP mean?
Knowledge Base + 2023.12.08

10G SFP stands for 10 gigabit small form-factor pluggable. It is a transceiver module used in network equipment to provide 10 gigabit connectivity over fiber optic or copper cabling. These modules are hot-swappable and can be used in various networking devices such as switches, routers, and network interface cards.

What is the difference between SFP+ optical module and SFP optical module?

SFP and SFP+ optical modules are basically the same size, the main difference is the transmission rate, the maximum transmission rate of SFP optical module is 2.5Gb/s, while the SFP+ optical module is 10Gb/s. Due to the difference in the transmission rate, their applications and transmission distances will be different.

Can I use SFP+ optical modules in SFP ports?

The answer is yes.

A 10G SFP+ optical module plugged into an SFP port can work, but the transmission rate is only 1Gbps; however, an SFP optical module cannot be used in an SFP+ port.

What is the maximum transmission distance supported by our SFP+ optical modules?

Depending on the type of fiber used, the transmission distance is different, with OM1 multi-mode fiber transmission distance is 300 meters, and OS2 single-mode fiber use the longest distance is currently to do 100 kilometers.

Do SFP+ modules automatically configure between 1GbE and 10GbE?

Auto-configuration is not supported between 10GE and 1GE rates.

Are TwinX and Twinax the same?

Yes, they are the same.

Can SFP+ optical modules be used with SFP+/QSFP high speed cables?

No. SFP+/QSFP high-speed cables can be plugged directly into the SFP+/QSFP ports of the switch to connect to both ends of the switch without the use of an optical module.
